26/1001: Terminator 2-Judgement Day

Released 1991
American

Directed by James Cameron
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick
(watched via VHS I think originally, though it might have been in the theater when it first came out; it's been so long I'm having trouble remembering how I saw it first)

The Plot Basically Breaks Down Like This:
Two naked robots from the future appear in now-time in order to chase down whiny greasy emo-kid John Connor. One robot - who looks a lot like the killer robot from the first Terminator movie - wants to protect John, while the other wants to murder him dead. After busting John's mom out of the looney bin, she, John, and the good ultimate killing machine, try to change the future by blowing up the tech company that possibly creates Skynet and destroys the world. It gets very violent and action-y, people die, and eventually the two killer robots take each other on terminator style.

My Thoughts Basically Break Down Like This:
I remember what a big deal it was when this movie first came out. At the time it was the MOST EXPENSIVE MOVIE EVER MADE and had the MOST CUTTING-EDGE SPECIAL EFFECTS IN THE HISTORY OF EVER. And I do have to admit that this movie is a heckuvalotta fun to watch. It is big and loud and violent and crazy and full of amazing (especially for the time) special effects and yet even manages to include a not-too-bad storyline. I've never been fond of the idea that Sarah and John Connor could really change the future, as if they changed the future and the robotocalypse never happened then future-John never would've sent his father back in time to impregnate his mother and current-John never would've existed to change the future and so on... But for the most part the story stands. The important parts - a mother trying to protect her son, her son trying to protect the future, and a robot trying to protect his famous franchise - are solid and well done. I've watched this movie several dozen times since it first premiered way back in the very early 90s and it never gets old. Even with all of the newer, lamer Terminator films being released, I can still watch THIS Terminator and enjoy it for how novel and unique and amazing it was back the first time I saw it.
